Its objective is to contribute to broadening and deepening the  knowledge on strategies to prevent crime and violence in the region.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;The purpose of this call for proposal is:&lt;/p&gt; &lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt; Promote the design and implementation of effective crime  prevention practices in Latin America and the Caribbean, considering the  basic criteria that define a Best Practice.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt; Create and  promote a knowledge base, supported by empirical work, on the models or  practices that increase the effectiveness of the crime prevention  interventions in the regional context.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt; Foster the use of  assessment practices, as well as the adoption and development of  rigorous design and assessment standards for prevention projects  relevant to the specific situation being addressed.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt; Recognize the teams that execute crime prevention initiatives in the context of the region.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt; &lt;p&gt;The proposals must focus on the following matters:&lt;/p&gt; &lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt; Prevention of problematic conduct related to crimes or  violence in children and adolescents in the context of school, family,  neighborhood and other social or institutional spaces.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt; Prevention of domestic violence, violence against women and child abuse.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt; Community policing.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt; Situational prevention.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt; Rehabilitation and social reintegration of adults and young adults.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt; Dispute mediation.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt; &lt;p&gt;Participants may be public institutions at any level of the State;  private, not-for-profit agencies and agencies that are not government  agencies (corporations, foundations, NGOs); social, community and/or  neighborhood organizations. The participant must have legal standing  recognized under the related national regulations.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;All the proposals received will be evaluated by a jury of high-level  international experts, as follows: Paula Miraglia (International Center  for the Prevention of Crime), Heloisa Griggs (Open Society Institute),  Elkin Velásquez (UN-HABITAT), Adriana Mejía (Organization of American  States), Estela–Maris Deon (UNODC), Javiera Blanco (Fundación Paz  Ciudadana [Citizen Peace Foundation, Chile]), Anthanas Mockus  (Corporación Visionarios), Lawrence Sherman (Cambridge University),  Hernando Paris (Costa Rican government), Michael Shifter (Interamerican  Dialogue), Timothy M Shaw (University of the West Indies), Gustavo Beliz  (IDB) and Hugo Frühling (CESC).&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;The awards will consist of financial support for the implementation  of projects and/or fees for the teams; scholarships to participate in  Diplomas in Crime Prevention at the Local Level and/or Supervision and  Rendering of Accounts in Policing offered by the CESC as distance  learning; a full scholarship to participate in the Seventh International  Training Course in Crime Prevention offered by the CESC at its  facilities; inclusion of the project as an example of a model initiative  in the print edition of the Libro de Buenas Prácticas de Prevención del  Delito en América Latina y el Caribe [Crime Prevention Best Practices  Handbook for Latin America and the Caribbean] and publication in the  online projects and best practices knowledge base.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;The first call for proposal, issued in 2010, attracted 57 initiatives  from 10 countries in the region, which contributed to the development  of the online projects and best practices knowledge base, &lt;a href="http://www.comunidadyprevencion.org/"&gt;www.comunidadyprevencion.org,&lt;/a&gt; as a tool for exchanging experience and initiatives in the crime prevention field.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;Entries must be submitted by October 10, 2011. James AlexanderPublication Date : Fall 2012&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This anthology will examine the diverse and complex experiences of motherhood and mothering from a broad, interdisciplinary perspective. We welcome submissions that explore the major cultural, political, historical, and economic factors such as migration and transnationalism that influence the lives of Caribbean mothers.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Further, we encourage writings that represent the relationships between Caribbean mothers and their children, perspectives of single Caribbean mothers, relationships of extended motherhood in Caribbean communities ; and colonial, post-colonial, and modern representations of Caribbean motherhood from literary, historical, biological, sociological, political, socioeconomic, ethnic, and media perspectives.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This incorporation of a variety of disciplines and methodologies will give insight to the issues on mothering within the Caribbean context and provide a space that recognizes the significance of Caribbean mothering.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The aim of this volume is to foster work on mothering that integrates the disciplines of feminist ideologies, literary criticism, and cultural analysis as well as represent the diversity of the Caribbean islands and Caribbean diaspora. The Off-Campus Library Services Conference is extending a formal invitation to librarians, administrators, and educators to present their research and share their knowledge with their peers. Individuals who provide library resources and services to students and faculty participating in instruction either away from a main campus or in the online environment are invited to submit a proposal. Through formal proceedings and the publication of Conference papers in the Journal of Library Administration, this information is made available to all who have an interest in this field. Deadline for submitting a proposal is September 15, 2009! Is it the MLIS? Would someone with an MLS, but who didn't work in a library or as a librarian, still be considered a librarian? The author concluded that just having an MLS doesn't make someone a librarian. One has to actually work as a librarian or in a library to be a "librarian."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Quotes&lt;br /&gt;"And what about that tiny minority of people with a bachelor's degree in library science who don't have MLS degrees. Can they ever be librarians?"&lt;br /&gt;"Is a librarian anyone with an MLS?
